Prioritizing the Kingdom: A Call to Seek Righteousness

Our focus should always be on the Kingdom of God. Jesus clearly said, “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.” But what often happens? People don’t seek His Kingdom or His righteousness; instead, they seek God to help them with their problems. Why do people approach God only to solve their problems? There’s nothing wrong with starting there—don't feel guilty. It’s perfectly fine to ask God for help when you need it, and that's where His mercy is shown. God, in His love, says, "I am here to help you." But after being helped, we must not fall into the habit of constantly bringing more problems and asking God to solve them. If you spend your entire life coming to God just for solutions to your problems, then you will always have problems.

Seeking God solely for issue resolution only leads to more issues, but when you seek His Kingdom and His righteousness, you enter into a different realm of relationship with Him.

Prioritizing the Kingdom

No matter what you're doing—whether it’s working, taking care of your home, raising your children, or even doing your errands—if you remain aware of God's presence and include Him in every decision, things change. When you make decisions asking, “Lord Jesus, will this action help me bless Your Kingdom?” or “Is this action part of participating in the righteousness of Your Kingdom?” you align yourself with God's will. And when you do that, success and satisfaction follow naturally because you’ve prioritized the Kingdom of God. There’s a blessing in that kind of life. Even without praying, you will find answers because you are seeking the Kingdom first, as Jesus said.

Too often, people spend their time praying for things like better jobs, better houses, and solutions to their personal problems.

But what did Jesus say? He didn’t tell us to pray for all these things. He told us to seek first the Kingdom of God, and all these things will be added to us.

Church today can sometimes focus too much on these needs, forgetting the Kingdom and His righteousness. However, when the Kingdom is your focus, you’ll find that you don’t need to pray for your own needs as much as it will be given to you. Instead, you’ll have more time to pray for greater things—revival, transforming cities, growing businesses, and seeing lives changed.

If all your prayers revolve around your own needs—getting a better job or a nicer house—there comes a time to move past that. Once you’ve prayed for those things, start seeking the Kingdom and His righteousness.
