The Genealogy of Jesus
The Genealogy of Jesus
The genealogy of Jesus, the Messiah, the Son of David, the son of Abraham. Now, go with me to Romans chapter 1, and I'm going to give you revelation into that scripture. A lot of people don’t read genealogy; they just skip it, thinking, “Man, this is not a story.” They prefer stories, but there are powerful revelations in genealogy.
In Romans chapter 1, I'm reading from verse 3. This verse says, "regarding His Son, which is Jesus, who, as to His earthly life"—say, "earthly life"—"was a descendant of David." So what did Matthew write about? What life of Jesus? The genealogy of Jesus—earthly genealogy. Matthew wrote about the earthly genealogy and says that, according to His earthly life, He was a descendant of David.
Verse 4: "Who through the spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God." The appointment is done by the Holy Spirit, amen! Connie was saying how the Spirit of the Lord came inside of her and took over, and she talked about how the spirit of death was removed. Watch this: He was appointed the Son of God in power by His resurrection from the dead. There is a resurrection life that defeats death, which comes inside of you and begins to make you operate as not just a son of man, but as a Son of God.
So right here, you see that according to His earthly life, Jesus’s genealogy is that He is the Son of David, the Son of Abraham. But according to the Spirit of Holiness or the Holy Spirit, He is appointed as the Son of God. You have received a spirit not to be slaves or locked under fear, but you are given a spirit of adoption as sons, through whom you call Him "Abba, Father." That Spirit of Holiness appointed Jesus as the Son of God by the resurrection from the dead. Hallelujah!
Now listen to this. Let's go to the Gospel of John, chapter 1. I’m going to a lot of chapter ones because I need to redefine your Genesis. Say, "My Genesis, my origin is being redefined God’s way." Hallelujah! Amen! Are you excited? Are you excited?
John chapter 1, verse 2: "But as many as received Him, to them…" See, God did not put a limitation. He did not say, “For as many as the 144,000 who received Him.” I hope you understand when I say 144,000; that refers to a group of people in the Book of Revelation who claim to be the only ones. God did not put a limitation; He said, "as many as." If you are open, if you are hungry, if you are heavy-laden, come to me, and I will give you rest. As many as, amen!
Because there is room for more in God! Hallelujah! There is always room for more. The Bible says, "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the power." He gave what? The power to become sons of God, even to those who believe in His name.
Then He clarifies what this means: "Which were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God." See, He’s clarifying: "I am not talking about your earthly life. I’m not talking about the genealogy of so-and-so. No, I am talking according to the Spirit of Holiness." Anyone who receives and believes the Spirit of Holiness says, "Appointed as the Son of God." Hallelujah!
Now you have access to the Spirit of Resurrection, who overcomes death in Jesus' name. Hallelujah! See, that is the type of appointment you receive from God.
